York County History Files
York county became a county in 1785. It covers 685 square
miles. Parts of Spartanburg.

A 1785 state law divided the old
Camden District into seven counties, including Chester, Lancaster and York and named Yorkville as
the county seat. The "ville" was dropped in 1915.
|
Union and York counties were used to create Cherokee County
in 1897. The area was settled by emigrants from York, Pa.
